Update: Due to the massive participation in this giveaway, Avira decided to give us 5 more licenses, so now at the end of the giveaway we’ll award 10 licenses of Avira Antivirus Premium 2012.
According to the latest Microsoft Security Intelligence Report (volume 12, page 67), a percentage of 37% of all computers have a type of malware installed. This is a seriously high percentage and it’s a clear sign that not only you need to have your data backed up, but should do something about preventing it from being compromised as well. One step in that direction is having an antivirus installed. Working on a computer that doesn’t have one is like leaving your door opened at night in a bad neighborhood – someone will eventually go in and steal Your Precious.
This is why we reached to Avira, one of the most important players in the antivirus industry and in an effort to increase awareness in data protection we are happy to announce that we are organizing a giveaway for 5 10 licenses of Avira Antivirus Premium 2012 (20€ value each).
Some details about this giveaway:
- Each of the
510 lucky winners will receive free updates for 1 year and can activate it on 1 PC - The winners will have the same benefits as a regular paying customer of Avira Antivirus
- There are no restrictions at all to participate, anyone can sign-up for this giveaway
- The giveaway begins now and ends one week from now, on Monday the 13th 2012
- The winners will be selected randomly and contacted via email
All you have to do to participate is sign-up for the giveaway using the widget below (you can sign-up using your Facebook account or by entering your email address). You can increase the number of entries for this giveaway by performing additional actions:
Avira is one of the top players in the industry, with twelve VB100 passes (VB100 is an award given by Virus Bulletin and means that the detection ratio for that particular test was 100%) and a score over 99% in detection rates by AV Comparatives. Both these sources (Virus Bulletin and AV Comparatives) are highly reputable, meaning results you can trust.
Avira’s main features:
- Real-Time Protection (scans your system in realtime to detect and block viruses and rootkits).
- AntiPhishing (protects your identity by blocking phishing websites).
- AntiSpyware (protects your computer against spyware too, not only viruses).
- Mail Protection (scans incoming emails and blocks infected ones).
- It offers a Rescue System feature that helps you jumpstart your computer in case of an emergency.
- Live Support means you can chat live directly with an expert from Avira if you need help.
- Doesn’t use a lot of resources to provide real-time speedy protection (can be installed and run on Netbooks too).
We installed Avira on a virtual machine and everything went smoothly, confirms indeed that it doesn’t have high requirements and doesn’t clog up the system when scanning or updating. If you’re a novice or simply don’t want to do advanced customizations, you can leave the settings to their default values, your computer will still be strongly protected. They do offer the option to create a Rescue DVD, and it’s something we’d recommend too, it would be a good start if something goes really wrong (this is an additional download, as well as the Live Support module).
What might be a little annoying is the fact that the Firewall and Backup options are shown but greyed-out with the mention that they’re not available in this edition. Personally I would just have removed those instead of “teasing” users, but from a marketing point-of-view it does make sense.
Anyway, remember to participate and you could be one of the 5 10 lucky winners. You also have the option to share this giveaway with your friends and earn additional entries (the more entries you have the greater your chances of winning are), so don’t keep this only for you. Good luck everyone!
Update: We’ve launched a giveaway on the novaPDF blog too, so if you want you can try your chances for one of the 10 licenses of Glary Utilities Pro.
